Although considered a Felix cartoon, this short seems to focus more on the boisterous king and what happens when ghosts try to get him to stop his bragging.
this is my favorite felix the cat cartoon. it starts with felix singing in a tree when a storm starts and a lightning bolt targets felix to electrocute so it chases felix in the forest and sends him to the castle of old king cole. Inside the castle you see fat, jovial King Cole sitting on his throne with a bunch of his servants, nobles and regents in his court. Bold King Cole looks quite hillarious, with a big fat belly (yes, when he laughs it does wriggle like jelly ) a big red nose, rosy cheeks, and a tiny crown, complete with the royal robes and all, of course. All his people get scared when the knocking starts at the door and hide under the red carpet that leads up to the throne’s dais. And Cole’s like “Well, somebody get the door!” The nobles are still all shivering under the carpet. King Cole balls them out for being such cowards and he’s finally like, “Me thinks my loyal subjects are not as brave as their brave king. I’ll open the door!”
King Cole then gits up and lifts up his ample paunch, like a lady in the old times wold pick up her long dress over her feet to walk, and moves towards the door. This scene is rather funny.
Finally Cole opens the door and welcomes the soaked little feline in. Cole happily introduces himself as does Felix and then Felix starts talking about the horrible weather. “Oh that” Cole laughs, “There’s nothing to fear about that! It’s just thunder and rain! Take me for example; I’m not afraid of anything! But I remember one storm with 10 thousand bolts of lightning…”
While the fat old king brags on about himself being so courageous, you see the pictures on the walls in the great hall of the castle’s deceased occupants (such as old kings of the past, nobles, regents, counts, barons, knights, mages, soldiers, etc.) begin to move and start talking to one another.
“Me thinks the old royal bragger is unusually windy today!” complains a ghost who is next to the mage guy. “What sayest we take the wind out of the odd windbag.” After they get frightened by a ghost who told Cole to “Get off the air”.
“Yeah!” agrees a Merlin mage-like guy with a beard down to his toes. “Let’s give the work… c’mon fellers!”
All the castles ghosts agree with each other and go after King Cole and Felix by jumping down from their frames. The is a scene where the ghosts chase Cole and Felix through the halls of the castle, and I must admit that cole runs pretty fast for a fat little guy. Eventually they catch up with Cole and after a struggle, grab him. Felix they could care less about, so they got a ghost friend of theirs to trap him in a suit of armor. Felix is helpless after the ghost grabs him with the top part of a suit of armor and places it on the body. The ghosts carry the King down to the torture chamber, all the while singing this eerie little diddy that goes like “You talk too much! You talk too much! You never shut up! You brag too much!” (They sing this all through the operation scene).
Once they get him into the torture chamber, there is this nasty looking torture device that consists of a table with straps and an apparatus above it that has two big iron balls attached to poles that go into the device and a hose coming out of the device.
Standing by it is a tall, lanky ghost in a surgeon’s suit. The two ghosts that had grabbed cole continued to sing the song threw him and strapped
him down to the chair that changed into an operation table when they arrived. Cole is too terrified of them to try to wriggle out of the situation.
The surgeon ghost after being dodged by the king to try and get the hose on him takes him by surprise and forces the hose on Cole’s mouth. The ghost then says “We’ll take the wind out of this odd windbag!” while pulling the two metal balls toward cole as cole tries to wriggle away from them terrified as they approached his stomach. The ghost then pulls a lever to start it and The balls then start pounding on Cole’s fat stomach and you quickly see the wind coming out of him through the hose. All the while the ghosts are singing that accursed little diddy and pointing at him while the surgeon ghosts smile in satisfaction watching the machine’s bag fill up. The balls keep pounding on his ample windbag until he is as thin as a toothpick, proving I guess that his stomach was made of air, not fat. The whole process looks excruciatingly painful (not for the ghosts but for their captive who doesn’t enjoy it one bit). They then stop the machine, wheel the table around and set it straight up, and begin laughing at him after they see how terrified the king is after seeing the wind come out of the big bag full of his life force (the wind). The King says “Get it away, get it away. I’ll never do it again. Get it away, I can’t stand it.” And is still scared. The ghosts don’t listen and continue to laugh. They probably want to do it to him again.
Felix, after escaping from the fat ghost who captured him, finds out that since lightning struck him, he can now shoot lightning from his fingertips. He rushes into the torture chamber and goes all Darth Sidious on the ghosts killing them with his lightning bolts. Cole releases himself from his straps and goes over and sucks the wind back in him from the hose in the torture device, which is kind of funny and thanks Felix and Felix and him both declare that they are fearless.
i wish they had a machine like that though. oh well.
Felix the Cat helps Old King Cole battle some ghosts with the help of handy lightning bolts. This later Felix, though not quite as much fun as the early ones, is wonderfully weird. Especially weird is the rather disturbing device the ghosts use to rid Old King Cole of his hot air, and the way the lightning turns Felix’s head into a lamp. I usually don’t like these later Felixes, but I have to admit this is one of the better ones.
