Olive tells the boys she loves a man in a uniform, so they try to sign up at the recruiting station, but they can only take one. There follows a duel of clips from previous shorts as they attempt to prove who is the winner.

I’m a died-in-the-wool lover of the old, 1930’s Popeye cartoons. They are probably the most creative, bizarre cartoons ever made(except for some of the Betty Boop cartoons such as The Old Man of the Mountain) which, of course, makes them the most fun to watch.
In this cartoon Popeye and Bluto are trying to sign up with the Army (which is strange as both Popeye and Bluto are already in the Navy, at least in several earlier cartoons) so that they’ll have a uniform to impress Olive Oyl with. There was a saying that “Girls love a uniform”; but I don’t know how true that is any more since a not insubstantial number of girls are wearing uniforms themselves. Maybe they love their own uniform now, instead of the one on some guy? Oh well. Anyway, you’ll the enjoy the usual great combination of sotto voce witticisms and weird transformations that make the old Popeye cartoons among the best of all time.
