Not one of Porkey’s best efforts as the humour seems a bit forced . Perhaps this was due to war-time restrictions and the shortage of good animators. The Pygmy Ant was a cartoon character who never took off so the interaction between the two just doesn’t happen. The explosion at the end blows up this turkey.
Worth noting–many of the old Black and White Porky Pigs were colorized in the late 60s by sending them to Asia and having the animation traced and backgrounds repainted. The results are quite sloppy and not representative of “real” Warner Bros./Slessinger animation. This is one of those. For that reason, I’d recommend steering clear of this one.
Porky Pig will always be the Ringo Starr of Warner Bros. cartoon characters in that he’s famous only by association. The fact that he has a debilitating speech impediment doesn’t make up for the fact that he’s not as clever Bugs and not as funny as Daffy. This cartoon aptly shows that Porky just couldn’t carry a cartoon by himself. Overall the cartoon is run-of-the-mill stuff despite the amazing hand-drawn animation and the good ol’ fashioned racist ending. But for Christ’s sake can we get that pig some pants?!!! It’s just creepy.
Hey, I like Porky Pig, I think he?s rather cute and has a great personality trait. It?s too bad that this cartoon is nothing but lame. Porky s trying to catch a valuable insect he mistakenly let out of his cage. Chase ensues. The insect is surprisingly unsympathetic. I was a rootin? for Porky all the way throughout this one.
Guild Films and Sunset productions. The picture Porky’s midnight matinee was not doing good. Covered two times in 1957 and redrawn in color. But in 1967, With the 1969 and 1982 covered of warner bros, it was a disaster. I don’t like that any more after what they did to republic pictures. Warner Bros black and white version before it was computer colorized by dynacs or cst technologies would hear sounds and pictures that’s looks a lot better. Don’t ever do that mess of what they did to warner bros again. I like the remastered porky’s midnight matinee complete and uncut by warner bros in 1941 in black and white.

Good cartoon. Sort of lags, but worth watching, if for nothing more than to say you’ve seen it.
