I may be biased, but i just love the cartoons from the 30-40-50’s… So this one is a nice addition to my growing collection !
However, the correct title is ‘Ancient Fistory’.
Great stuff !

Popeye plays Cinderella in this gender-reversed version of the tale, with Olive Oyl as the princess giving the ball, and Bluto as PopeyeÃ?Â?s employer and rival. PopeyeÃ?Â?s fairy godfather changes a can of spinach into a limousine that will change back at midnight. Popeye wins OliveÃ?Â?s heart, but Bluto butts in and foils Popeye with a cannon. Fortunately, at midnight, PopeyeÃ?Â?s limo turns back into a can of spinach, which Popeye is able to use with the usual results. As it sounds here, this is a pretty wacked-out version of Cinderella, but thatÃ?Â?s the great thing about cartoonsÃ?Â?Ã?Â?they can do this sort of thing and get away with it.

this gets fairly boring fairly quickly. the animations not great. I love popeyes voice, olive oils head….and the holes the cannonball makes, but the story we know too well and seeing popeye outside is normal setting doesnt do him much good. there must be better popeyes around here somewhere…………………………………

This Popeye cartoon is amusing in many ways. Love how they batter Old English by adding ?th? to just about every word spoken in this cartoon. I like the reversal of the Cinderella theme by putting Popeye in the Cinderella position (His fairy Godmother (Godfather?) looks like _____). Here he?s called Cinderfella, which beats out the Jerry Lewis film by at least a decade? Well, let?s look this up.. This cartoon was made in 1952.. Cinderfella.. 1960, so 8 years. So much for Mr Lewis?s Originality!
